Into The Woods
“Into the Woods” brings to musical life Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Ridinghood and other well-known Grimm’s fairy tale characters. Interwoven with these classic tales is the story of the Baker and his wife, whose longing for a child is thwarted by an evil witch who just happens to live next door. James Lapine, who wrote the book, and Stephen Sondheim, who wrote the music and lyrics, created a musical which transcends mere Broadway fanfare. The songs, which are seamlessly melded to the richly comic text, are perfect expressions of character and action and reflect the complications of living in modern society and the difficult choices we encounter along life’s pathway. The show starred Bernadette Peters and was a Tony Award winner in 1988.
The show is under the direction of Bryan Quinn, with musical direction by Juanita
Edington. The show will be presented at the Watertown High School in mid August. Performances: August 7-8th & 14-15th, 2009
