The Nutcracker

Our Annual Octagon House Holiday Show

The Watertown Historical Society and the Watertown Players announce the cast for their annual holiday show to be performed at the Octagon House Museum, 919 Charles Street, Watertown November 28 - 29th & December 5 - 6th. This year’s production is that perennial Christmas classic, “The
Nutcracker”, specially adapted by the show’s director, W.F. Jannke III.

The play, based upon the famed story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, tells the story of little Clara Silberhaus who is given a wooden nutcracker on Christmas Eve by her mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer. The toy is damaged by her brother Fritz and she places it in the parlor to keep it safe. From there she embarks on a magical journey where she is menaced by the evil Mouse Prince, saved by her now alive Nutcracker, and she meets the wacky Sugar Plum Fairies Agatha and Bagatha. The question is: was it all a dream? You’ll find out. The cast is made up of local talent which have been in rehearsals for several weeks now.

As in past productions, the show takes place on the first floor of the famed eight-sided landmark which was erected in 1854. The audience will be led through the rooms by the actors. Each performance lasts approximately 20 minutes, with a new performance every half hour from 12:00 to 3:00 each day.

Tickets for the show are $5.00 for teens and adults and $3.00 for children 12 and under. They are available at the door. For further information contact the Watertown Historical Society at (920) 261-2796.
