Production
of “Annie”
Watertown, Dec. 4 ---
The Watertown Players, Watertown’s community theater, will be producing
the musical comedy "Annie" January 16, 17, 18, 2003 at the Watertown
High School auditorium, 825 Endeavour Drive,
Watertown. Tickets for the event will go
on sale Monday, December 16 and will be available at Far Horizon’s Gift Shop in
Watertown and also at the Watertown Antiques Market. Tickets may also be reserved by calling Pat Groth after
"Annie" is based
on the famous comic strip "Little Orphan Annie" and was written by
Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin. It premiered on Broadway in 1977 and became an
instant hit. The show features the hit songs
"Tomorrow", "You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile"
and "It’s A Hard-knock Life".
The play tells the story of little orphaned Annie, who is languishing in
an orphanage run by the evil Miss Hannigan. She is
taken into the home of Oliver Warbucks, a
multi-billionaire, and together they set out to find Annie’s real parents. The
play was adapted for the movies twice, once starring Carol Burnett and most
recently starring Kathy Bates.
The Watertown Players show
is filled with talented local performers who have been in rehearsals for
several weeks now. The show is under the direction of Annette Strege, who is also choreographing the show, with assistance
from Kristy Bates. Technical director is Dan Bates, musical direction by Lanelle Tanudjaja and the
accompanist is Patty Zulli.
