“THE AUDITION PROCESS”
Dear Aspiring Actor:
The Audition Process is one of the most grueling parts of
acting, both for the actor and the director.
In the past we have been criticized for the lengthiness of the auditions,
but the plain and simple fact is, it takes a long time to cast a show and to
hear everyone, so the first thing I would like to emphasize is this:
PLEASE BE PATIENT!
Everyone wants to be doing something other than listening
to someone sing or read, but in order to determine who is best suited for a
part WE MUST LISTEN TO EVERYONE! In
order to make things run smoother and a little quicker, we will be listening
first to persons wishing to try out for chorus parts only.
When you arrive at the place of audition, you will be
given a packet of information, including an audition form and personal
biographical form. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT
YOU FILL OUT EVERY FORM TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY AND RETURN
THEM TO THE REGISTRATION DESK. IT IS
ALSO IMPORTANT THAT UNDER THE SECTION, CONFLICTS, THAT YOU LIST ALL CONFLICTS
YOU MAY HAVE!! I cannot stress this
enough. We are more than willing to work
around your schedule, but if you have conflicts that may cause you to miss more
than eight or ten rehearsals in a month you may wish to reconsider trying
out. We need everyone to be at the
rehearsals and we need you to commit to the show.
REGISTRATION FOR AUDITIONS WILL TAKE PLACE FROM
On your audition form, that you will receive when you
arrive, there will be a section that asks you to circle what size of a part you
want, chorus, non-singing, medium or
principal parts. Be sure to circle one
or all. However, if you have circled all
then be prepared to sit all day. Those
trying out for a chorus part will be sent on their way after they have sung.
Once we have finished with the chorus parts, we will be
listening for medium or supporting roles and finally principal roles. Be prepared to sing a song OF NO MORE THAN
ONE MINUTE IN DURATION! If we feel we
need to hear more from you, we will ask you to sing once again. Also, be prepared to read a little from the
script. Remember, experience is no
object! Everyone will be treated the
same at the audition. You and your
fellow Thespians are all in this together and so you shouldn’t feel
self-conscious if you stumble over a line or two. Do your best and that is all we expect of
you.
IF YOU CANNOT BE THERE ON THE DAY OF AUDITIONS CONTACT

AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR A PRE-AUDITION, OR CALL THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR,

We wish to make this whole process one of fun for
you. This is going to be a good show and
if you are selected you will be making many friends that you will undoubtedly
treasure. Good luck!
