Dead Emma

October 29-30, 2004

6:30-9:30 p.m.

Octagon House Museum

In this comedy mystery play, two detectives are called out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of Emma Thomas. Along the way they encounter a host of eccentric and highly suspicious characters.

The Watertown Players, in conjunction with the Watertown Historical Society, will present the black comedy, "Dead Emma,” at the Octagon House Museum on Oct. 29 and 30 from 6:30 to 9:30 each night.

The show, an original production by local historian Bill Jannke and founder of the theater group, tells the story of the investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Emma Thomas, grand-daughter (by marriage) of John Richards, original owner of the Octagon House.

Two detectives, Tuesday Weld and his partner Billy Sunday, are called into the case by the distraught Mrs. Bott, mother of the missing woman. They proceed to interview the missing woman's grandmother, Emily Bradford; her aunt, Mary Alice Green; her cousin Ophelia; Sade Jones a neighbor; and finally, they seek out and question Anna Thomas and her son Billy, both of whom act very suspiciously. The story is punctuated with one-liners and comedic situations and nothing is taken seriously. Because of double casting, a new performance can begin every 15 minutes throughout the evening.

The cast for the production includes

Tuesday              Jim Ortega & Bryan Quinn

Billy Sunday         Joseph Smith & Dale Van Holten

Mrs. Bott            Lisa Steffl

Mrs. Bradford        Angie Stenberg

Mrs. Green           Sue Trepte

Ophelia              Jennie Ortega

Sade                 Charlotte Groth

Mrs. Thomas          Pat Groth

Billy Thomas         Jim Steffl

The show is under the direction of Bill Jannke, with assistance from Justin Pratt.

Cost is $4 for teens and adults and $3 for children 12 years of age and under.

Tickets can be purchased at the time of the show.

A Colonial Christmas

Nov 27-28 and Dec 4-5, 2004

Noon - 3 p.m.

Octagon House Museum

"A Colonial Christmas" was also written by Jannke, who is directing it. This show tells the story of the Danburry family and their preparations for Christmas in 1776, the height of the Revolutionary War. This show touches many themes families are confronted with even today.
